East Kent Railway

The East Kent Railway is a 2.5 mile heritage railway built to serve local coal mines and their communities in the countryside near Dover. We offer exciting days out for families, groups and enthusiasts on board of 1950s diesel trains.

Once a thriving passenger and freight line serving the Kent coal mining area, this surviving four mile round trip takes you on a scenic journey through rolling North Downs countryside and the fascinating Golgotha Tunnel to make this a trip to be remembered.

We operate a unique mix of heritage trains from diesel electric multiple units and shunters, to former Southern Region electric trains.

At Shepherdswell you can see restoration work in progress for example on, "St Dunstan" our colliery steam locomotive from the nearby Snowdown coal mine. The pretty fifteen acres of woodland at Shepherdswell has marked trails plus, 7 and 5 inch miniature railways near the car park and cafe.

The station area includes a visitor centre showing artefacts and a mural of the railway as it was. There is also a coach belonging to the Walmer Model Railway Society in which they love showing visitors the model railways contained. Eythorne station has a cafe and large picnic/viewing areas, and the Victorian signal box to visit.
